Barcelona And Wolfsburg Kick Off UWCL Semis

The reigning UEFA Women’s Champions League champions look to break another attendance record in what will surely be a packed Camp Nou squaring off against current Bundesliga leaders Wolfsburg in the first UWCL semifinal Friday. Multiple Canadian and US legal sports betting apps offer action on the event, too.

As Barca embarks on its chance to reach a second consecutive UWCL final, the question for bettors is whether history will repeat itself. Sportsbooks have their answer.

UWCL semifinal betting preview

Barcelona will not only look to break the previously mentioned attendance milestone but also grab all three points against Wolfsburg. Barca lost their three previous matchups against the Volfinnen, including a 1-0 defeat in the 2019-20 semifinals.

Alongside Lyon, Wolfsburg is one of two clubs that haven’t been lost in the UWCL against the Blaugranas. Another first would be if Barcelona scores against Wolfsburg. If they can manage it, they would have scored against all the 26 opponents they faced in the competition.

Despite not being able to win the continental competition in a while, Wolfsburg has their own pedigree when it comes to the UWCL. This is the seventh time they have reached the semifinals, only surpassed by Eintracht Frankfurt (eight) and Lyon (12).

The Volfinnen have progressed on five of those occasions to the decisive game. The last time they won a semifinal match the loser was this same Barcelona club. Also, Wolfsburg was the last team to eliminate a current champion in the semifinals, when they knocked out Frankfurt in 2015.

Which players look primed to star Friday?

Moving on to the players, two of the top goalscorers of the current edition of the UWCL face off. Tabea Wassmuth has nine goals and Alexia Putellas with eight. Also, Fridolina Rolfo, now in Barcelona but one of the few players to have played for both clubs, leads in assists so far in the competition with five.

Teammate Caroline Graham Hansen (another player that has worn both shirts) is the leader on chances created with 27.

Stylistically, both teams are very different. Of the four teams in this semifinals, Barcelona is the team with the most shots (233) and goals (32). Wolfsburg ranks last in those two statistics (143 and 20, respectively).

Sportsbooks seem to be giving a massive value to Barca’s home pitch and offensive advantages in this one. Barcelona is a heavy favorite on the 3-way moneylines, with the best odds sitting -450 at BetMGM.

Bettors who believe Wolfsburg’s defense and historic success will win the day can get a sweet +950 payout should that prove true. BetRivers, FanDuel, and PlaySugarHouse all offer that line right now. Bettors can watch the match live on Ata Football at 12:45 p.m. EDT.
