United States Faces Colombia In The First Of Two Friendlies Saturday

Written By Antonio Maza on June 25, 2022

The United States Women’s National Team gets into the final stretch before competing for World Cup and Olympic qualification with two friendlies against Colombia. The Colombians are also getting their final details sorted before the Copa América with the same objective as the USWNT.

Two teams with a lot of talent at their disposal will be surely interesting. Legal Canadian and US sportsbooks have action on the match to make it more intriguing.

Recent form for both teams heading into Saturday

Saturday’s match should kick off at 7:30 p.m. EDT from Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce CityColoradoFS1 will have live coverage in the United States.

Bettors shouldn’t let themselves be swayed by the last meeting between these two because that Colombian team was only made up of local team players and came from a long hiatus in playing. This one is in form and will put forth more of a battle.

However, the USWNT has won seven of its first eight matches against Colombia, keeping clean sheets in all seven wins. The lone draw was a 2-2 result in the group stage of the 2016 Olympics.

This will be the fifth home match for the USWNT against Colombia, with the first four also all friendlies. The United States has outscored Colombia, 20-0, in those four matches, all wins by at least three goals.

The United States has never lost a home match against a CONMEBOL opponent, winning 31 of the 33 matches. The two draws were both against Brazil, in the 2000 Gold Cup and 2015 friendly. In those 33 games, the USWNT has outscored the CONMEBOL visitors, 124-12.

After opening 2022 with a draw against the Czech Republic, the USWNT has won four straight matches by an aggregate score of 28-1. The USWNT has scored at least five goals in all four games, the seventh time in team history they’ve done so and the first since 2018. The last time the USWNT scored five or more goals in five straight matches was in 2015.

Who might contribute and the odds

Alex Morgan returns to the USWNT having scored 11 goals in 10 regular season NWSL games for San Diego Wave FC. Morgan is the first player in league history to score 11 goals in her first 10 games of a season.

Despite the improvements and the talent of the Colombian team (keep an eye on Linda Caicedo and Cata Usme), the USWNT are still overwhelming favorites. FanDuel has the USWNT a -4500 favorite on its 3-way moneyline for example.

Other markets, like team goal totals and half props, are also available. Those markets offer more favorable odds but come at greater risk as well.
