UFC Fight Night Preview: Silva vs. Yanan

Written By Alec Cunningham on April 13, 2022

UFC Fight Night returns this Saturday, April 16 with a 14-bout card that promises to provide a heated evening. Among those pairings is one particular women’s event featuring two eager bantamweight fighters.

Mayra Bueno Silva (7-2-1) and Yanan Wu (12-4-0) both look to prove themselves as they meet in a main-card matchup this weekend. The two fighters each boast only one win in their previous four matchups, making a victory here all the more coveted.

Mayra Bueno Silva — Minas Gerais, Brazil

Thirty-year-old Brazilian fighter Mayra Bueno Silva is hungry for a win after posting a handful of recent lackluster UFC performances.

Silva rocketed into her professional fighting career in 2015, quickly becoming a Bathala MMA bantamweight champion. She then earned her UFC contract in 2018 by claiming a victory by submission against Mayana Souza.

Silva advanced into the UFC with a clean 5-0 record, extending that to 6-0 in her debut appearance against Mayana Kellem. The win remains her quickest victory to date, forcing a submission via anaconda choke in a speedy 62 seconds.

Her last four appearances in the Octagon, however, have only resulted in one win and one draw. Most recently, she lost by unanimous decision against Manon Fiorot.

She went into each of her matchups against Gillian Robertson, Montana De La Rosa and Fiorot as the underdog. However, she was the betting favorite going into her victory against Maryna Moroz in 2020.

Heading into this bout, Silva is the substantial favorite, with DraftKings Sportsbook situating her at -475 odds. As far as the method of victory, a Silva win by decision is the most likely option a -110 odds. The chance of Silva winning by submission sits at +225 odds and her winning by KO, TKO, or DQ is positioned at +650 odds.

Wu Yanan — Liaoning, China

After losing three of her first four UFC faceoffs, 25-year-old Wu Yanan will be scrapping for a win in her fifth Octagon appearance. She launched into her pro career in 2013, entering the UFC in 2017 on a three-game winning streak and a 10-1 record.

That all went downhill, however, as Yanan entered into Octagon competition. She made her debut in UFC Fight Night 122 against Gina Mazana., ultimately losing.

Her subsequent appearance against Lauren Mueller resulted in her first and only win thus far. Wu claimed her victory via armbar submission in the very first round.

She went on to suffer a split decision loss to Mizuki Inoue in 2019. Her last UFC bout came more than a year ago in 2021, when opponent Joselyne Edwards made her UFC debut with a victory by unanimous decision.

Despite Yanan’s ultimate defeat in those last two matchups, she happened to be the betting favorite in both.

Yanan will be searching for redemption once again as she enters the Octagon for the first time in 2022. She carries a three-inch height advantage over Silva, but her wingspan puts her at an almost half-inch deficit. What she lacks in span, however, she makes up for in sheer determination — as she proved early on in her career.

Rather than entering as the betting favorite this time, DraftKings puts her at an unlikely +350 odds of a win.

For anyone expecting Yanan to come out swinging and finally hit her UFC stride, these come as especially favorable odds. A $10 moneyline bet on the youngster would return a $45 payout upon victory.

DraftKings Sportsbook offers extensive UFC Fight Night odds

Those looking to wager on the outright winner of this fight can do so at practically any active sportsbook.

There’s only one operator, however, that offers extensive betting options for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night. Not only does DraftKings Sportsbook offer wagering options for 13 of the 14 matchups, but it’s also the only sportsbook to list in-depth betting markets for the Silva-Wu bout.

Wagering markets for this particular fight include:

  • Winning method
  • Total rounds
  • Time of finish
  • To go the distance

In addition to this added variety, DraftKings also features fight parlays, which offer bettors more potential return for a slightly higher risk.

For instance, instead of snagging Silva for the outright win at -475 odds, bettors can pair that with a wager on the fight’s total rounds for additional value. By doing this, a parlay on Silva to win and the fight to go over 2.5 rounds falls to -150 odds.

Bettors anticipating Yanan to add a second win by submission in Round 1 to her career can snag the parlay at a lengthy +3500 odds.
