One of the nice things about the PWHL schedule for bettors on Wednesday is that if you don’t like one contest, there’s another to consider. Four of the league’s six teams will be in action on Wednesday evening, potentially spoiling bettors for choice.
The puck will drop on both games at the same time, however, meaning betting both could require some advance preparation. Fortunately, that’s exactly what a betting preview is all about.
PWHL Ottawa at Boston details, handicapping
If it feels like you’ve just seen this show, you aren’t off. These teams met up in the same venue on Monday, which was the first meeting of these teams in Boston. Ottawa evened the season series by winning that game 4-2 and will look to put together back-to-back wins for the first time in its history on Wednesday.
- Puck drop: 7 p.m. ET, Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024
- Venue: Tsongas Center, Boston, Massachusetts
- Broadcast: Canada – TSN United States – Bally Sports North, NESN, and Sportsnet Pittsburgh
- Last 5 games: Boston WLLLL, Ottawa LLLLW
- Boston points: 12, 2-2-2
- Ottawa points: 13, 3-0-4
- Boston goal differential: -6 overall, -9 at home, -1 against Ottawa
- Ottawa goal differential: +1 overall, +4 on the road, +1 against Boston
The road team has one each of the past two meetings in this series. Bettors should note, however, that those are the only two games these teams have ever played against each other. Because of the youth of the league, data could be described as scant.
Ottawa continues to build its reputation for taking teams to the brink and is improving at being able to win such games. It will need to continue to apply that pressure to avoid falling behind Wednesday against Boston goalie Aerin Frankel, whose 0.922 save percentage currently ranks her fifth in the league. Boston will look to current league assist leader Alina Müller to drive its attack.
PWHL Montreal at New York details, handicapping
This third meeting of these teams marks the second such game taking place in New York, with New York looking for its first-ever win against Montreal. There’s been more of a gap between Wednesday and the last meeting, however.
- Puck drop: 7 p.m. ET, Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024
- Venue: UBS Arena, Elmont, New York
- Broadcast: Canada – RDS2 (French language), TSN (English language) United States – MSG Network
- Last 5 games: Montreal WWWLW, New York WLLWW
- Montreal points: 20, 4-3-2
- New York points: 13, 2-3-1
- New York goal differential: +2 overall, -5 at home, -4 against Montreal
- Montreal goal differential: +1 overall, +4 on the road, +4 against New York
New York fared better its last time out against Montreal, falling 2-1 as opposed to 5-2 in the first meeting of these teams. New York will count on league points leader Alex Carpenter to get over the hump this time. However, both offenses have their work cut out for them.
This is a matchup of the two best goalies in the league right now by save percentages, with Montreal’s Elaine Chull just edging out New York’s Corinne Schroeder. Thus, the under on the goal line is in play in this contest.
