PWHL Boston and PWHL Ottawa have only played once in their histories and never in the United States. The series will double in its number of games and number of venues on Monday when Boston hosts Ottawa for the first time ever.

Legal North American online sportsbooks have the home team in today’s game as a slight favorite on top of a standard goal line for the league’s games. The stats suggest the outcome could be similar to the result of the first meeting of these teams.

PWHL Ottawa at Boston details

The only meeting of these teams so far took place just a little under a month ago, resulting in a 3-2 road win for Boston. These are the current bottom teams in the points race in the league although they have played at least one fewer game than the other teams in the league to date.

  • Puck drop: 4:30 p.m. ET, Monday, Feb. 19, 2024
  • Venue: Tsongas Center, Boston, Massachusetts
  • Broadcast: Canada – TSN United States – NESN
  • Last 5 games: Boston WWLLL, Ottawa LLLLL
  • Boston points: 12, 4-3-2
  • Ottawa points: 10, 2-3-4
  • Boston goal differential: -4 overall, -7 at home, +1 against Ottawa
  • Ottawa goal differential: -1 overall, +2 on the road, -1 against Boston

Ottawa has been the best team in the league at forcing games to overtime. That suggests that they could be a little development away from becoming one of the top squads in the league. Whether they will take another step toward that end on Monday is something that bettors will have to determine for themselves.

Handicapping PWHL Boston vs. Ottawa

The most games that any PWHL team has played to date is 12, meaning data on these contests is still very scant. In their nine games, two players have begun to stick out for Boston. Forward Alina Müller is currently tied for the league lead with seven assists. Meanwhile, goalie Aerin Frankel’s 0.925 is good for fifth-best in the league.

Ottawa counters by being one of the strongest teams in the league on the power play, netting seven such goals in nine games. At the same time, Boston has not been especially prone to being a woman down so far on the young season.

FanDuel Sportsbook is offering plus money on the Ottawa moneyline, the Boston spread, and over 4.5 goals. There are paths to all three of those bets paying off. Two of them rely on Ottawa’s continued improvement while the Boston spread depends on Frankel replicating her previous performance against Ottawa.

No matter how this game goes, it will set the tone for future meetings between these teams in the US.
