Nelly Korda Projected To Win Gold After Round 4 At The 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Written By Alec Cunningham on August 6, 2021

23-year-old Nelly Korda from the United States has been absolutely smoking the women’s golf competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The world No. 1 looks to maintain her three-stroke lead going into the fourth round of competition on the East Course at Kasumigaseki Country Club on Friday, Aug. 6th – or Saturday, Aug. 7 for those in Tokyo.

Nelly Korda dominates for Team USA

Korda shot an impressive nine under par during the second round for a score of 62, giving her a four-stroke lead against her competition.

This strong lead continued in Round 3 despite some arising issues. She went on to shoot a 2-under 69, having to hustle for pars instead of birdies this go around. Still, she managed to hold off other potential contenders, finishing at 15 strokes under par for the first three days of play.

Her closest competitor, Aditi Ashok, finished at 68 for the day, giving Korda a three-stroke lead off the rest of the pack.

If Korda can hold it together for another 18 holes, she’ll claim victory over her fourth tournament of the year.

Odds of Nelly Korda sweeping the field in Round 4

Before the third round, DraftKings gave Korda -200 odds of becoming the official gold medal winner. Now, going into this fourth and final round, Korda boasts a three-stroke lead and -330 odds of winning the tournament.

Korda’s closest competition during Round 3 was  Jin Young Ko, who sat at +1000 odds before the third day. Approaching Round 4, Ko has been knocked down the leaderboard to +6500. Aditi Ashok and Lydia Ko are now Korda’s two players to beat, with +800 odds and +1000 odds respectively.

Round 4 potential

The chance of a tropical storm reaching Tokyo this weekend has threatened the fourth round all week. In preparation for potential inclement weather, final round tee times have been moved up by an hour.

In the event the final round is able to be completed Saturday or Sunday, the tournament’s winner will be declared according to the scores after the first three rounds. This would give Korda the gold with her score of 15 under par for the week. Aditi Ashok’s -12 score would follow behind with silver, and the quartet of Lydia Ko, Hannah Green, Emily Kristine Pedersen, and Mone Inami would tie for bronze with a score of 10-under.

Players will begin teeing off for the fourth round of competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics beginning at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday – which is 6:30 a.m. local time Saturday in Tokyo.

Bettors can stream the action live from the Golf Channel.
