Angel City FC Looks To Recover Against Rampaging Houston Dash Tuesday

Written By Antonio Maza on June 7, 2022

Angel City FC and the Houston Dash will face each other for the first time in history Tuesday. While that means there isn’t any historical data in the series to look at when considering betting on NWSL matches here, bettors don’t have to go into this match blind.

These clubs come in with varying recent forms and statistical achievements in the young 2022 NWSL season. It’s up to bettors to decide how much weight to give to each of the trends.

Angel City odds for Tuesday night

Tuesday’s match begins at 10 p.m. EDT from the Banc of California Stadium. Bettors can watch on Paramount+. DraftKings has Houston a +145 favorite in its 3-way moneyline market on Tuesday morning.

Angel City looks to get back on track after a defeat at the hands of Portland Thorns FC while a win for the Dash would put them on top of the NWSL table. Houston has won its last two league matches in the Pacific time zone after winning just once prior.

Angel City has been shut out in consecutive matches. Prior to its recent scoring dip, the club had been held scoreless twice in 10 all-time competitive matches.

On Friday, Houston notched the largest shutout victory in club history with its 5-0 win over the Orlando Pride. There has been only one larger shutout win in NWSL history (6-0,  the North Carolina Courage over Portland in 2019) and Houston’s only other match with five or more goals was in August 2018 against Sky Blue FC (a 6-1 final).

Which players could impact Tuesday’s match?

Angel City’s Savannah McCaskill had five chances created on Friday with the rest of the club’s players combining for just four total chances created in the loss to Portland. McCaskill is the only NWSL player with multiple matches with at least five chances created in league play this season.

Nichelle Prince became the first Dash player ever to notch a hat trick with her three-goal performance against the Pride on Friday. Prince became the 14th player in NWSL history with three or more goals in a match and the second Canadian player to do so, joining Christine Sinclair.

Angel City has been a very irregular side at home with two wins and two losses plus only four goals scored in those matches. Meanwhile, Houston is undefeated on the road in 2022. In those matches, they have scored five times and only conceded once.

Bettors need to decide for themselves whether they believe the Dash’s run of success playing outside Houston will continue on Tuesday or whether Angel City will end its scoring drought. The stats say the former is more likely than the latter.

According to American Soccer Analysis, Angel City has the worst goal differential to expected goal differential ratio in the NWSL at -7.02. At the same time, the Dash are slightly outperforming expectations with a 0.80 figure in the same category.
