With three top-10 finishes and narrowly missing the same in a fourth event so far this year, Canadian Brooke Henderson has been a model of consistency on the LPGA Tour in 2022. That’s part of why legal sportsbooks across the US favor her in their 2022 Honda LPGA Thailand futures.
Despite some of the tour’s bigger names skipping this event, Henderson will still have some serious competition with longer odds. Henderson’s recent history in this event cements her status as the favorite, though.
Henderson seeks first win of year in 2022 Honda LPGA Thailand
Henderson has played all four LPGA events on the year so far. In those events, her worst finish came at the LPGA Drive On Championship in early February. There, she tied for 11th and missed a top-10 finish by a single stroke.
Her best finish so far this year was a runner-up claim in the season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. In both of the other events, she tied for sixth. It’s worth noting that the LPGA Drive On Championship consists of only three rounds as opposed to four.
We’ll never know whether Henderson would have gained that stroke she needed with a fourth round there but the stats suggest she very well may have. She is leading the tour so far in birdies (68) and sub-par holes (70).
Henderson has fared well at this particular event recently. In her last two appearances (2019 and 2018) she placed sixth and tied for seventh, respectively. She isn’t alone in having success on this course in the field, though.
No Jin Young Ko but field still has serious contenders
While World No. 1 Jin Young Ko is not in the field this week, defending champion Ariya Jutanugarn is. Jutanugarn became the first Thai winner of the event since Hee-Won Han won the inaugural edition in 2006.
Korean Amy Yang – who won this event in 2015, 2017, and 2019 – also will be seeking her fourth Honda title. They are the only past winners expected to be in the field when competition begins.
In its 15th year as an LPGA Tour event, live action at the Honda will be on the Golf Channel and NBC Sports. Coverage begins on Thursday, March 10 at 1 a.m. Eastern Time. Eastern Time is 12 hours behind local time for the tournament in Chonburi.
BetMGM has Henderson as its favorite at +800 while Caesars lists her +900. Both of those books have Yang +2000 and Jutanugarn +3300. While futures markets are live at several legal sportsbooks in the US right now, that’s isn’t the only way to bet the event.
Groups, matchups, and round props at legal sportsbooks
BetRivers and SugarHouse sportsbooks offer props on which golfers will win head-to-head matchups and groups. For example, bettors can get +300 odds on Jeongeun Lee6 to best the others in her loaded Group B.
Matchup offerings include pitting 2021 Rookie of the Year Patty Tavatanakit against Minjee Lee, with Lee getting the short action at -134. DraftKings offers different matchups like Lee vs. Henderson with the Canadian getting the love again at -120.
DraftKings also allows bettors to buy into golfers’ performances as finishes in the top 10. Yang, who has yet to finish outside the top 10 in her last five appearances in this event, is +175 to continue that streak.
Another unique market on DraftKings for the Honda is a round prop. Henderson, Lee, and Tavatanakit are all +1600 to have the lead at the end of the first round. If Henderson can make that bet payoff, she might very well be headed for her first win of 2022.
